The law requires anyone that wants to dig underground to go thru the State’s 811 system (via phone or online) in order to have underground utilities/assets in the digging zone identified before digging begins. The law requires that any entity owning any kind of underground infrastructure in the digging zone to mark their underground infrastructure above ground via colored paints and flags, within 48 hrs. of being notified by an 811 digging ticket system (the 811 State system has maps of all underground utilities and matches locations of underground assets with digging zone requests).  This company provides this unground utility locating service.
